Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- A cylinder was stored at ambient temperature for 2 years and tesred for stability and corrosion.
- GLP compliance:
- no
Test material
- Reference substance name:
- Phosphine
- EC Number:
- 232-260-8
- EC Name:
- Phosphine
- Cas Number:
- 7803-51-2
- Molecular formula:
- H3P
- IUPAC Name:
- phosphane
- Test material form:
- gas under pressure: liquefied gas
Constituent 1
- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- The filled weight was recorded and the cylinder kept at ambient temperature for 2 years. Samples were taken before and after storage and the average of 3 samples, following gas chromoatography, was used.
Results and discussion
- Transformation products:
- no
Any other information on results incl. tables
The VAPORPH3OS cylinder indicated some slight discoloration (yellowish-brown tinge) had occurred below the liquid level in the cylinder; no change in wall thickness was noted.
For the stability, the VAPORPH3OS composition before the testing was 98.34 wt% PH3 with a standard deviation of 0.07. The composition after the test (two-years) was determined to be 98.58 wt% PH3 with no standard deviation. The error on each doesn't
overlap but the relatively small difference from the two values (.31 or. 17 between error bars) would appear to indicate the product is stable. These results match very well with the results obtained in the accelerated testing.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Executive summary:
The corrosion of the packaging material was not detectable and therefore the use of the steel cylinders is appropriate. The analysis of the product composition for VAPORPH3OS indicates no decomposition. Therefore, the product can be packaged in steel cylinders without corrosion or stability concerns.
