Description of key information

Readily biodegradable in an OECD 301 B test reaching 100% mineralisation based on CO2 evolution after 18 days at 62 mg/l.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

Three studies are available on ready biodegradability or similar. All three studies document significant mineralisation of the test material of > 60% after 20 to 28 days. No inhibition of degradation was observed for the toxicity control. In the OECD 301B study, the pass level of 60% was reached 10 days after the degradation has started. Ethyl 3-ethoxypropionate is therefore concluded to be readily biodegradable and to be rapidly mineralised if emitted to a sewage treatment plant or to surface water.
