Additional information

Data on physical and chemical properties for 2 -methylpropane-2-thiol (CAS 75 -66 -1) has been taken from a number of proprietary and secondary sources. The data in these secondary sources are based on a critical evaluation of peer-reviewed data and the selected values are considered to be reliable and representative of the property under investigation. Information on the review process was documented in the introduction of the source. The use of Klimisch codes (Klimisch et al. 1997) was extended to these secondary sources and a reliability code of (2) valid with restrictions was assigned when using the authoritative secondary source.

Review of the collated information indicates that 2 -methylpropane-2-thiol has a high vapour pressure with a relative density of lower than water which indicates that if released in the water environment it would float above the water column. 2 -methylpropane-2-thiolis not expected to partition in organic phase based on an estimated log Pow of 2.28.

The flash point and boiling point results for 2 -methylpropane-2-thiol indicate that the substance would be classified as Category 2 flammable liquid under CLP with the hazard statement "highly flammable liquid and vapour".
