Description of key information

The results of the study show that only 6% of 2-methylpropane-2-thiol was degraded in 63 days, which indicates that 2-methylpropane-2-thiol is not expected to be readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

The results indicate that 2-methylpropane-2-thiol is not inhibitory to microorganisms, nor is it readily biodegradable. The results have been taken from Gancet (2010) - a GLP compliant, 63 day, aerobic test on secondary effluent, following OECD guideline 301D (Ready Biodegradability - Closed Bottle Test).
