Description of key information

Metal carboxylates such as barium dibenzoaten are substances consisting of a metal cation and a carboxylic acid anion. Based on the solubility of barium dibenzoate in water, a complete dissociation of barium dibenzoate resulting in barium cations and benzoate anions may be assumed under environmental conditions. Abiotic degradation is not relevant for barium cations. Barium cations and benzoate anions are not subjected to hydrolysation as both ions lack hydrolysable groups. Therefore, abiotic degradation is not considered to significantly affect the fate of barium dibenzoate in the environment.
