- Endpoint:
- flammable solids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 14 December 2017 to 31 January 2018
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Key result
- Test procedure:
- burning rate test: preliminary screening test
- Remarks on result:
- substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
- Interpretation of results:
- other: Not classified in accordance with EU criteria
- Conclusions:
- The test material was not classified as a flammable solid of Division 4.1 and thus was not assigned to any packing group, under the experimental conditions used.
- Executive summary:
The test method for readily flammable solids was conducted in accordance with the standardised guideline UN Test N.1 under GLP conditions.
In the preliminary test, the test material melted. Neither propagation nor ignition was observed. The results of the preliminary test obviated the need for the main test.
The test material was therefore not classified as a flammable solid of Division 4.1 and thus was not assigned to any packing group, under the experimental conditions used.
- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture
- Justification for type of information:
- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure water reactivity is not to be expected. In addition, the substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture. - Endpoint:
- pyrophoric solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
- Justification for type of information:
- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected. In addition, in the daily use and handling of the substance during which continuous exposure to air can occur, no spontaneous ignition is observed.

Assay 1: The test material melted. Neither propagation nor ignition was observed.
Assay 2: The test material melted. Neither propagation nor ignition was observed.
Taking into account the results obtained during the preliminary test, no main test was performed.
Description of key information
Flammability (solids)
The test material was not classified as a flammable solid of Division 4.1 and thus was not assigned to any packing group, under the experimental conditions used.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- not classified
Additional information
Flammability (solids)
The test method for readily flammable solids was conducted in accordance with the standardised guideline UN Test N.1 under GLP conditions. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).
In the preliminary test, the test material melted. Neither propagation nor ignition was observed. The results of the preliminary test obviated the need for the main test.
The test material was therefore not classified as a flammable solid of Division 4.1 and thus was not assigned to any packing group, under the experimental conditions used.
Pyrophoricity
In accordance with point 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for pyrophoric properties. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as experience in use and experience of handling the substance indicates that it does not possess pyrophoric properties.
Flammability in contact with water
In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure water reactivity is not to be expected. In addition, the substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture.
Justification for classification or non-classification
In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to flammability.
