Description of key information

Sodium isostearoyl lactylate (ISL) is readily biodegradable (QSAR prediction, BIOWIN v4.10). In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH) Annex VIII, column 2, a hydrolysis study is therefore not required.

The partition coefficient was estimated at log Kow = 3.98 (QSAR prediction). Therefore, sodium isostearoyl lactylate has no significant potential for bioaccumulation (log Kow ≤ 4.5).

The adsorption/desorption coefficient of ISL was estimated at approximately 6334 L/kg (QSAR prediction, KOCWIN v2.00). Accordingly, the substance is likely to strongly sorb to soil and show slow migration to groundwater.
