Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

N,N,N′,N′-Tetramethylethylenediamine is a grays/yellow (Munsell Book of colours colour nº: 10Y/9/1) liquid at 20.9 ºC. It has a melting point of -58.7 ºC and a boiling point of 118.7 ºC. The relative density was determined to be 0.7758 at 20 ºC. Granulometry is not applicable because the test item is not used in solid or granular form. The vapour pressure was calculated to be 13.92 hPa at 20 ºC, 19.19 hPa at 25 ºC and 82.55 hPa at 50 ºC. The n-octanol/water partition coefficient (log Pow) at 20.2 ºC was measured to be -0.13, and it is fully miscible with water (water solubility is >1000 g/L). The aqueous surface tension was found to be 70.2 mN/m at 19.9 ºC & 1 g/L.

The flash point of the test item was determined to be 16.5 ºC, and the auto-ignition temperature was 150 ºC. As the flash point is below 23 ºC and boiling point above 35 ºC, the substance is classified as a Flammable liquid (category 2) under CLP regulation. The substance is not considered corrosive to metals: a study run to an internal company method observed not change in weight of mild steel and aluminium coupons when placed in the liquid phase, vapour phase and one at liquid/ vapour interface of the test item, when stored in a glass bottle at ambient temperature for a least 11 months. These results can therefore be used to conclude that the test item should not be classified as corrosive to metals. The substance is not classified under any other EU CLP physical hazard endpoint.
