Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
relative density
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 109 (Density of Liquids and Solids)
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
pycnometer method
Type:
relative density
Density:
ca. 1.01
Temp.:
20 °C

Relative density was determined by means of a pycnometer as per recommendations of OECD 109.

Density was calculated from the difference in weight between the full and empty pycnometer and its volume.

5.1 Instruments:

Shimadzu AX 120 analytical weighing balance (0.0001 g), 25 ml pycnometers per powders.

5.2 Procedure:

Empty pycnometers were kept in humidity free conditions during 24 hs prior to testing. One empty pycnometer was weighed (WP1), then filled with n-Hexane, kept for 20 min. at 20ºC and weighed

again (WHP). Another pycnometer was weighed (WP2), filled to half its volume with the test substance and weighed again (WS), then filled with n-hexane, kept during 20 min. at 20ºC and weighed again (WHS).

5.3 Calculations:

Absolute density of a substance (d) is calculated as:

dsubs = WS / Vsubs = WS / (Vpyc – Vhex) = WS / (Vpyc – WH2 / dHex) = WS / (Vpyc – WH2 * Vpyc / WH1)

Relative density is calculated as: dsubs / 0.999973

Conclusions:
The substance was tested for relative density following OECD 109. Under the experimental conditions the relative density at 20°C is 1.01
