Description of key information

This substance is void of any chemical structures commonly associated with explosive properties, such as metal peroxides, peroxo-acid-anions, azides, and halogen oxides. As an inorganic salt, consisting only of Ag+ and Br- ions, silver bromide is also considered to be non-combustible/non-flammable and any rapid combustion can be excluded. Thus, testing for explosive properties is scientifically not justified (in accordance with Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 (REACH), Annex XI, Section 1).

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

This substance is void of any chemical structures commonly associated with explosive properties, such as metal peroxides, peroxo-acid-anions, azides, and halogen oxides. As an inorganic salt, consisting only of Ag+ and Br- ions, silver bromide is also considered to be non-combustible/non-flammable and any rapid combustion can be excluded. Thus, testing for explosive properties is scientifically not justified (in accordance with Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 (REACH), Annex XI, Section 1). The registrant is also not aware of any actual case reports or accidents involving explosion of silver bromide. Thus, no hazard classification for explosive properties is required.
