Description of key information

An oxidising substance is one that, while in itself not necessarily combustible, may cause or contribute to the combustion of other material. Oxidising substances generally act by yielding oxygen. Silver bromide (AgBr), is an inorganic substance, consisting of Ag+ and Br- ions in a crystalline matrix. Neither of these ions, nor the compound AgBr as such is able to contribute to combustion by yielding oxygen or by other means. The assessment that AgBr has no oxidising properties in the sense of hazard classification is supported by industrial experience in production, storage and use of this compound. In consequence, experimental testing for oxidising properties is scientifically not justified for AgBr (waiving statement in accordance with Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 (REACH), Annex XI, Section 1).
