The test substance is an aqueous solution in 40 % acetic acid. Basic Yellow 28 Acetate is only stable in presence of significant concentrations of free acetic acid; it can not be isolated as such. Therefore, the exact water or n-octanol solubility of Basic Yellow 28 Acetate cannot be determined.
The water solubility of Basic Yellow 28 as methyl sulfate at 20 °C was determined to be 8.8 g/L.
The partition coefficient n-octanol/water of Basic Yellow 28 as methyl sulfate was determined to be log KOW = -1.1
Basic Yellow 28 with the acetate counter-anion has a considerably higher solubility in acetic acid solution. The common marketed product contains 40 % of Basic Yellow 28 Acetate, hence the solubility is higher than 400 g/L. It should therefore have a distinctly lower log Kow than the methyl sulfate salt.
