Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Owing to the extremely low solubility of butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane in water, concentration levels toxic for fish could not be reached. Therefore, the 96-h LC50 for Carp exceeded the maximum solubility of butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane in water at a loading of 100 mg/L, the regulatory limit concentration (water solubility of butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane was determined to be ca. 0.03 mg/L).

Additional information

96-Hour Acute Toxicity Study in Carp with butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane. The study procedures described in this report were based on the EEC directive 92/69, Part C.1. “Acute toxicity for fish”; and the OECD guideline No. 203: “Fish Acute Toxicity Test”.

Butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane induced no mortality in Carp when exposed to a filtered or an unfiltered solution prepared at 100 mg/L. Due to low solubility of test item, actual concentrations could not be maintained at more than 80 % of the initial concentration. However, every possible effort was made to ensure that the maximum soluble fraction of the test item was tested and maintained. In conclusion, owing to the extremely low solubility of butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane in water, concentration levels toxic for fish could not be reached. Therefore, the 96-h LC50 for Carp exceeded the maximum solubility of butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane in water at a loading of 100 mg/L (nominal), the regulatory limit concentration. The water solubility of butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane was determined to be 0.03 mg/L.
