Additional information

The ready biodegradability of 3-methyl-2-butenal was tested in a study performed according to ISO 14593 (CO2 Headspace Test) using domestic, activated sludge as inoculum. At test termination after 28 days a degradation rate of 80 - 90 % was determined (BASF AG, 2002). In a second test BOD5 and COD values were determined and a BOD5*100/COD ratio of 58 was detected (BASF AG, 1996). Additionally a test on inherent biodegradability conducted according to OECD guideline 302B was performed. The test medium was inoculated with industrial activated sludge and a degradation rate of 99 % was determined after 10 days (BASF AG, 1996). Thus, the substance is readily biodegradable.
