Description of key information
Read across from a structurally similar material (potassium clavulanate) was used to complete this endpoint ). A 72 hour acute algae study was conducted on the surrogate material according to GLP and OECD guidelines, this study assessed both biomass and growth rate. The outcome of the study showed the test material to be not classified according to the environment.
The results were as follows:
72 hour EC 50 value for biomass was 56mg/L
The 72 hour EC50 value for growth rate was > 170 mg/L
The NOEC for Growth was calculated to be 17 mg/L
The NOEC for biomass was calculated to be 9.4 mg/L
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- EC50 for freshwater algae:
- 170 mg/L
- EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
- 17 mg/L
Additional information
A 72 hour acute algae study was conducted, both growth rates and biomass were assessed during the study. The results were calculated using mean measured concentrations:
72 hour EC 50 value for biomass was 56mg/L
72 hour EC50 value for growth rate was > 170 mg/L
The NOEC for Growth was calculated to be 17 mg/L
The NOEC for biomass was calculated to be 9.4 mg/L
The substance is not classified for this endpoint as the test material is rapidly degradable (please see section 5.2.1 of Iuclid - biodegradation in water). Also the test material has a very low potential for bioaccumulation as the Log Kow has been predicted to be -1.3 using KOWWIN (please see section 4.7 of Iuclid).
