Description of key information

EC50 > 100 mg/L can be reasonably extrapolated from activation sludge respiration inhibition tests performed according to OECD TG 209 for 1,3-dioxolane (EC50> 100 mg/L) and  2,5,7,10-TETRAOXAUNDECANE (EC50> 1000 mg/L), 2 members of the acetals familily (including also GF).

Methylal, another acetal, shows low toxicity to Pseudomonas putida with EC10 and EC50> 10 g/L (according to DIN 38412, part 8) and low toxicity to Pseudomonas fluorescens, Bacilius cereus, Enterobacter cloacae and S. cerevisae with inhibition concentrations of 40-50, 100-120 and 20-30 g/L, respectively.

This value is also supported by a supporting study in which no toxicity of GF was founf at concentrations of 7 mg/L.
