Additional information

Short-term toxicity to fish

The lethal concentration (LC50) value of N-[4-[(2-hydroxyethyl) sulphonyl] phenyl]acetamide in fish [Lepomis macrochirus] in a 96 hr study on mortality effect was found to be 103.1416 mg/L . Thus, considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded that N-[4-[(2-hydroxyethyl)sulphonyl]phenyl]acetamide does not exhibit short term toxicity to fish [Lepomis macrochirus].

Long-term toxicity to fish

According to column I of annex IX, Long-term toxicity testing on fish was considered for waiver as short term toxicity data has already been provided as part of Annex VIII requirements.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The effective concentration (EC50) value of N-[4-[(2-hydroxyethyl)sulphonyl]phenyl]acetamide in Daphnia magna in a 48 hr study on immobilisation effect was estimated to be 156.3647 mg/L.Thus,considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded that N-[4-[(2-hydroxyethyl)sulphonyl]phenyl]acetamide does not exhibit short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrate (Daphnia magna).

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

According to column 1 of Annex IX;Long-term toxicity testing on invertebrate was considered for waiver since the information on acute toxicity has already been provided as a part of Annex VII requirements.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

The effective concentration (EC50) value ofN-[4-[(2-hydroxyethyl) sulphonyl]phenyl]acetamidein aquatic green algae [Selenastrum capricornutum (new name: Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata)] on the basis of growth rate effect was estimated to be 245.4156 mg/L . Thus, considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded thatN-[4-[(2-hydroxyethyl)sulphonyl] phenyl]acetamidedoes not exhibit toxicity to aquatic green algae [Selenastrum capricornutum (new name: Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata)].

Toxicity to microorganisms

The effective concentration (EC50) value of N-[4-[(2-hydroxyethyl)sulphonyl]phenyl]acetamide in microorganisms (Tetrahymena thermophila) in a 48 hr study on the basis of population effect was estimated to be 373.2421 mg/L.
