Additional information

The two presented studies were performed according to GLP and Respiratory Inhibition (IC50) resulted in both greater than 100 mg/l; nevertheless the original reports are missing, therefore reliability is actually set to 4. They can be considered valid as a Weight of Evidence, because of the consistency with the other existing studies.

The remaining test presented was performed on the analogous dihydroxyethyl derivative tetrasulphonated sodium salt, CAS 16470-24-9.

Both substances are tetrasulphonated sodium salts. The diethylamino substituent is less polar, less reactive and makes the molecule slightly less soluble compared to the dihydroxyethylamino derivative. The latter can therefore considered as a representative conservative analogous for the aquatic toxicity because of the higher bioavailability and higher reactivity with organic substrates. The category Justification Report is attached to section 13.

For the whole category twelve over fourteen registered substances were tested and none of the existing tests arised any concern for microorganisms toxicity

Several studies with good reliability are available in order to assess the toxicity of the substance to microorganisms.

All of those studies demonstrate that the substance do not inhibit the degradation activity of activated sludge in concentrations higher or equal to 100 mg/l.
