Additional information
The toxicity to microorganisms was evaluated by considering data on the substance and on the similar substance 3a-MSA. Justification for Read Across is given in Section 13 of IUCLID.
The key study was performed on the analogous substance, 3a-MSA. Both substances are tetrasulphonated sodium salts. The substance's constituent is less polar, less reactive and makes the molecule slightly less soluble compared to the similar substance derivative. The latter can therefore considered as a representative conservative analogous for the aquatic toxicity because of the higher bioavailability and higher reactivity with organic substrates. The determination of the IC50 (3 h) Inhibitory concentration was performed according to the OECD guideline 209. The IC50 (3 h) was found to be higher than 100 mg/l
The two presented studies on the substance were performed according to GLP and Respiratory Inhibition (IC50) resulted in both greater than 100 mg/l; nevertheless the original reports are missing, therefore reliability is actually set to 4. They can be considered valid as a Weight of Evidence, because of the consistency with the other existing studies.
The available data demonstrate that the substance do not inhibit the degradation activity of activated sludge in concentrations higher or equal to 100 mg/l.
