Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Description of necessary first-aid measures
General advice : Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance. First aider needs to protect himself. Place affected clothing in a sealed bag for subsequent decontamination.
Inhalation : Remove to fresh air. Keep at rest. Consult a physician if necessary.
Skin contact : Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. In case of skin contact. Wash off with soap and plenty of water. Wash immediately and thoroughly for a prolonged period (at least 15 minutes). Consult a physician.
Eye contact : Rinse with running water whilst keeping the eyes wide open (at least 15 minutes). Get immediate medical advice/ attention.
Ingestion : Do NOT induce vomiting. Rinse mouth with water. Do not give anything to drink. Obtain medical attention.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media : All extinguishing agents can be used.
Unsuitable extinguishing media : None known. Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment.
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Specific hazards during fire fighting: on heating. Corrosive or suffocating vapours are released. In the presence of water, forms corrosive solutions.
Advice for firefighters
Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: For further information refer to section 8 "Exposure controls/personal protection". Self-contained breathing apparatus (EN 133) Full protective suit
Specific fire fighting methods : Do not inhale fumes. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Cool containers / tanks with water spray. Wear suitable protective equipment. Recover the water used for extinguishing and neutralize with sodium hydroxide until the pH is between 5.5 and 8.5.
Further information : Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Do not breathe dust. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and respiratory system.
Use personal protective equipment. Goggles. Face-shield. PVC or other plastic material gloves. Respirator with a particle filter (EN 143). Remove all incompatible materials as quickly as possible
Environmental precautions : Prevent product from entering drains. Contain the spilled material by bunding.
Methods for Cleaning or Taking Up
Recovery : Collect spillage. Shovel or sweep up. Never return spills in original containers for re-use. Keep in properly labelled containers.
Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal. Acid resistant materials.
Decontamination/cleaning : Wash the non-recoverable remainder with sodium carbonate solution (5 % Na2 CO3).
Treat recovered material as described in the section "Disposal considerations".
Disposal : Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal. Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
Handling and storage
Handling
Technical measures : Provide adequate ventilation. Vapour extraction at source. Avoid dust formation. acid resisting floor.
Advice on safe handling and usage: Avoid dust formation. Use only in well-ventilated areas. Do not mix with incompatible materials (See list section 10). Keep away from flames and hot surfaces. Do NOT handle without gloves. Reduce the duration of exposure to the minimum required.
Storage
Technical Measures for storage : Keep in an area equipped with acid resistant flooring. The floor of the depot should be impermeable and designed to
form a water-tight basin.
Storage conditions
Recommended : Keep in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed. Incompatible products : Do not mix with incompatible materials (See list section 10).
Packaging Measures
Packaging materials - Recommended : Keep only in the original container.
Packaging materials - To be avoided : Aluminium and its alloys.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Control measures
Engineering measures : Local exhaust dust extractors. Facilities and equipment easily cleanable.
Personal protective equipment
Respiratory protection : Use a respirator with an approved filter if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary.
Hand protection : Acid-resistant protective gloves. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it. Gloves must be inspected prior to use.
Eye protection : Safety goggles. Face-shield
Skin and body protection : Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection. impervious clothing. Boots. Choose body protection according to the amount and concentration of the dangerous substance at the work place.
Remove and wash contaminated clothing.
Hygiene measures: Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location. Use clean, well-maintained personal protection equipment. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday. Shower or bathe at the end of working. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.
Protective measures: The protective equipment must be selected in accordance with current CEN standards and in cooperation with the supplier of the protective equipment. Selection of appropriate personal protective equipment should be based on an evaluation of the performance characteristics of the protective equipment relative to the task(s) to be performed, conditions present, duration of use, and the potential hazards and/or risks that may occur during use. Always have on hand a first-aid kit, together with proper instructions.
General advice : Prevent product from entering drains. Contain the spilled material by bunding.
Stability and reactivity
Reactivity : Stable under recommended storage conditions.
Chemical stability : Decomposes on heating.
Hazardous reactions
Materials to avoid : Reacts with the following substances: Oxidizing agents. Alkalis and caustic products.
Decomposition products : On combustion or on thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) releases:
harmful vapours.
Oxides of phosphorus.
(Carbon oxides (CO + CO2)).
Other information : Attacks many metals releasing highly flammable gas (hydrogen) which generates fire or explosion hazards.
Disposal considerations
Product Disposal
Prohibition: Do not dispose of with domestic refuse.
Advice on Disposal : The product should not be allowed to enter drains, water courses or the soil. Send to a licensed waste management company.
Dispose of as hazardous waste in compliance with local and national regulations.
Advice on cleaning and disposal of packaging
Measures for waste avoidance. : Do not burn, or use a cutting torch on, the empty drum. Do NOT dispose of untreated packaging with industrial waste.
Advice : Rinse with an appropriate solvent. Allow it to drain thoroughly. After recovery of solvent dispose of by special waste incineration.
Other data : Dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
