Description of key information

median acute oral narcotic dose (ND50) of 3064 mg/kg

median inhalation dose affecting behaviour (ID50) of 6693mg/m3

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

De Ceaurriz et al (1983) reported an ID50 value of 1605 ppm (6693 mg/m3) in the mouse 'swimming despair' test. Only limited information was available about this study. Munch (1972) reported a median acute oral narcotic dose (ND50) of 3064 mg/kg for isopropyl acetate in rabbits based on behavioural observations.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on limited data available for isopropyl acetate, classification is recommended warning that exposure to high concentrations of isopropyl acetate vapours may cause narcosis. See Section 7.5 also.
