Description of key information
Additional information
A study was conducted to assess the toxicity of the test substance, Oxirane mono (C12-C14) glycidyl ether; CAS
RN 68609-97-2, to Rainbow Trout in a 96-hour semi-static test.
Test concentations were determined by a preliminary range-finding test. The loading rate concentrations chosen for the range-finding test (1, 10 and 100 mg/L) were administered to the test system, Rainbow Trout, in laboratory fresh water. A main test was run using the test material at loading rate concentration of 10, 18, 32, 56 and 100 mg/L, which was administered to the test system in laboratory fresh water. The test was terminated after 96 hours of exposure. A 100% survival rate was observed in control fish, and for all loading rate concentrations used . Based on observation, the 96-hour median lethal loading rate (LL50) of the substance was determined to be >100 mg/L. The NOEC (No Observed Effect Concentration) for survival was determined to be = 100 mg/L.
A study was conducted to determine the toxic effects of Alkyl (C12-C14) glycidyl ether; CAS RN 68609-97-2 on the growth of the freshwater algae Selenastrum capricornutum in a 72-hour test. The test substance concentrations of 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, and 8000 mg/L (based on a preliminary range-finding test) were administered to the test system, Selenastrum capricornutum, in sterile medium. For each test concentration, three test containers containing the freshwater algae (initial cell density of 10,000 cells/mL) were treated with the appropriate concentration of the test substance. A control group consisted of six test containers containing sterile medium and the test culture only. A positive control group consisted of three replicates treated with 10 mg/L potassium dichromate. The cell density in each test and control container was measured daily using a hemacytometer. The pH of each test and control container was determined at test termination. The test was terminated after 72 ± 2 hours of exposure. The mean cell counts of the test concentration containers were compared to the control counts. The test concentration that resulted in 50% inhibition (IC50) was determined to be 843.75 mg/L with 95% confidence limits of 582.44-1097.71 mg/L. The NOEC (No Observed Effect Concentration) was determined to be 500 mg/L.
A study was conducted to determine the toxic effects of Alkyl (C12-C14) glycidyl ether; CAS RN 68609-97-2 on Daphnia magna in a 48-hour test. In the main test, twenty daphnids (2 replicates of 10 animals) were exposed to Water Accommodated Fractions (WAFs) of the test item over a range of nominal loading rates of 1.0, 1.8, 3.2, 5.6, 10, 18, 32, 56 and 100 mg/l for 48 hours under at a temperature of approximately 20°C under static test conditions.
The 48-Hour EL50 for the test item to Daphnia magna based on nominal loading rates was 7.2 mg/l loading rate WAF with 95% confidence limits of 4.1 - 12 mg/l loading rate WAF. The No Observed Effect Loading rate was 1.8 mg/l loading rate WAF.
