Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Acute toxicity to fish has been investigated in a 96 hour test according to OECD test methods. Dissolution/dispersion agents were used to increase concentration of the substance in the test medium. The LC50 (96h) was determined to be >100 mg/L.

Acute immobilisation in Daphnia has been investigated in a 48 hour test according to OECD test methods. Dissolution/dispersion agents were used to increase concentration of the substance in the test medium. The EC50 (48h) was determined to be >100 mg/L and the NOEC was 100 mg/L, the highest concentration investigated.

Algal growth inhibition has been investigated in a 72 hour test according to OECD test methods. Dissolution/dispersion agents were used to increase concentration of the substance in the test medium. The EC50 values for inhibition of specific growth rate (ErC50) and yield (EyC50) being >50.0 mg/L. The NOEC for inhibition of specific growth rate (ErC0) was 25.0 mg/L and yield (EyC0) was 50.0 mg/L.In accordance with ECHA guidance oninformation requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7b: Endpoint specific guidance, the ErC50 endpoint is used in PNEC derivation. This is because use of values based on biomass cannot be applied to an analysis of results from a system in exponential growth without logarithmic transformation.

Chronic toxicity to Daphnia has been investigated in a 21-day reproduction test according to OECD test methods and using dissolution/dispersion agents to increase concentration of the substance in the test medium. The NOEC (21-day, reproduction) was 4.04 mg/L and the EC50 (21 -day, reproduction) was 10.4 mg/L.

Tests with a structural analogue of the substance, a trimellitate ester with mixed C8 -C10 side chains, showed no acute toxicity to fish, daphnia or algae when tested at the limits of water solubility. Chronic daphnia tests with this substance showed no toxicity when tested at a concentration of 4.5 mg/L. Microbial growth inhibition tests with the same substance showed no toxicity. The findings of these aquatic toxicity tests are in reasonable agreement with the observed NOEC/LOEC from testing with the substance itself.
