Description of key information

Monochloroacetic acid: Key studies: experimental results: oral studies with rats and mice by gavage, and in male rats by administration in drinking water.
Methyl chloroacetate: no data available.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available results, the substance chloroacetic acid is not classified for carcinogenicity. No data is available on the substance methyl chloroacetate. Therefore, the reaction mass of chloroacetic acid and methyl chloroacetate is not classified for carcinogenicity.

Additional information

Reaction mass of methyl chloroacetate and chloroacetic acid:

1.- Monochloroacetic acid: The carcinogenic potential of monochloroacetic acid was studied in oral studies with rats and mice by gavage, and in male rats by administration in drinking water. Based on the results of these studies no evidence of carcinogenic activity of monochloroacetic acid was found after oral administration.

2.- Methyl chloroacetate: there is no reliable data on carcinogenicity.
