Description of key information

The Effective concentration (EC50) for Thiosemicarbazide was found to be 19 mg/L and the NOEC is 2.8mg/L in a 72 hr study conducted on Algae on the basis of effect on growth rate.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
19 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
2.8 mg/L

Additional information

Toxicity test of thiosemicarbazide was done at two concentration 2.8 mg/L and 19 mg/L for 72 h. The EC50 value for thiosemicarbazide is considered to be 19mg/L and the NOEC is 2.8 mg/L.

Based on the value and biodegradability status, the substance may be classified in aquatic chronic category 3 as per the CLP regulation.
