Description of key information

3-[3,3,3-Trimethyl-1,1-bis[(trimethylsilyl)oxy]disiloxanyl]propyl methacrylate is a liquid at ambient temperature and pressure, with a measured freezing point of <-100°C and a measured boiling point of 292.7°C. It has a relative density of 0.925 at 20°C, a kinematic viscosity of 4.91 mm2/s at 20°C and measured vapour pressure values of 0.11 Pa at 20°C, 0.38 Pa at 30°C and 4.8 Pa at 50°C.

The substance is not classified for flammability on the basis of a measured flash point of 142.5°C and measured boiling point of 292.7°C. It has a measured auto-ignition temperature of 354°C, and is not explosive and not oxidising on the basis of chemical structure.

In contact with water, the substance reacts slowly, half-lives of 3.6 hours at pH 4, 630 hours at pH 7 and 5.3 hours at pH 9 and 20-25°C. The stated half-life is for removal of parent substance. Complete reaction to the ultimate end products will take longer. The reaction equation is shown below:

C16H38O5Si4 + 2H2O → C7H14O5Si + 3(CH3)3SiOH

The substance has a predicted water solubility of 5.8E-05 mg/l at 20°C and a predicted log Kow of 9 at 20°C. The substance is not surface active based on examination of the chemical structure.
