Description of key information

Biodegradation in water: screening tests: 0% in 28 days (OECD TG 310, Ready biodegradability - CO2 in Sealed Vessels (headspace test)). The silanol hydrolysis products, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl methacrylate and trimethylsilanol, are not expected to biodegrade to any significant extent.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

A reliable ready biodegradation study, conducted according to OECD Test Guideline 310, is available, and gives a biodegradation result of 0% in 28 days based on CO2 evolution.

3-[3,3,3-Trimethyl-1,1-bis[(trimethylsilyl)oxy]disiloxanyl]propyl methacrylate hydrolyses slowly (half-life approximately 26 days at pH 7 and 25°C) to 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl methacrylate and trimethylsilanol. The silanol hydrolysis products are not expected to biodegrade to any significant extent and the experimental result confirms this expectation.
