The reported densities were converted into relative density by dividing by the density of water at 4 °C (0.9999720 g/cc).
The relative density varied from 1.930 to 2.097 depending on the relative amounts of clear crystals (low temperature phase material which has precipitated from solution in crystalline form and has never been through the high temperature phase) and opaque crystals (low temperature phase solid which has previously been converted from high temperature phase solid). The relative density for 48 samples from a production run in February 1968 ranged from 2.056 to 2.097. Material with 100% clear crystals has the highest density (2.097) and this can be considered to be the relative density of pure low temperature phase TCCA.
Description of key information
Relative density can be considered to be 1.93 - 2.10
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Relative density at 20C:
- 2.1
Additional information
Three sources of information are available. Brautigam (1968) reports the relative density to be in the range of 1.930 to 2.097 using the pycnometer method.
In a study (Wo C 2007) the tap density and pour density were determined to be 1.097 g/mL and 1.034 g/mL respectively.
Nelson (1975) reports the relative density to be 2.04 - 2.10 @ 25°C
