Description of key information

Zinc dipropionate is non auto-flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH), annex VII, 7.12. a study on selfignition temperature does not need to be conducted, if “preliminary results exclude selfheating of the substance up to 400 °C”. This criterium is met, as zinc dipropionate decomposes above 240 °C and 400 °C are reached by external heating only. By differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), according to regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, A.1 and DIN 51004, and thermo gravimetry (TGA), according to DIN 51006, with heating up to and including 600°C and 1000 °C, respectively no self-heating was observed (see sections 4.2 Melting point and 4.3 Boiling point).
