Upon application of a Bunsen flame, the test item charred, began to melt and bubble, before igniting after 7 seconds with a yellow/orange flame. This self-extinguished without propagating combustion.

Therefore, a definitive test was not needed, and the substance was not classified as a flammable solid under EU CLP/ UN-GHS.

 

Self-heating substances / mixtures: The substance is not explosive, oxidising or flammable, and notified classifications for the two main constituents do not features classification for self-heating. Experience of usage and handling confirm the substance does not have self-heating properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In the prelimiary test the test item charred and began to melt and bubble before igniting 7 seconds after the Bunsen flame was applied, with a yellow/orange flame which self-extinguished without propagating combustion. therefore according to Method N.1 of United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, 6th revised edition, 2015 no further testing is required and the substance should not be classified as flammable solid.
