The substance is a clear liquid with a penetrating odour. The boiling point is lower than -20 °C, the melting point is about 200 °C, the vapour pressure is 0.0243 mm Hg at 25 °C and the flash point is above 100 °C (~112 °C). It is neither oxidizing nor explosive or flammable. There is no evidence for concern regarding the physical-chemical properties. The substance is soluble in common organic solvents. In water, it is not stable as it is rapidly and completely hydrolysed into phosphorous acid and butanol.
