Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Cis-cyclooctene was tested in an array of in vitro genotoxicity assays. There was no indication of mutagenic or clastogenic activity. Therefore no in vivo genotoxicity assay was conducted. According to the studies cis-cyclooctene is not considered to be genotoxic.

Short description of key information:
A full set of three in vitro studies including a mutation assay in bacteria, a cytogenicity study in mammalian cells and a mutation assay in mammalian cells demonstrated the lack of genotoxic potential of cis-cyclooctene both in absence and in the presence of external metabolic activation.

Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the results in an array of genotoxicity assays, no classification according to EU and GHS criteria is required.
