Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Study meets generally accepted scientific principles, basic data given.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
degradation of the test substance in estuarine sediment under anaerobic conditions
GLP compliance:

Inoculum or test system:
other: black surface sediment
Duration of test (contact time):
ca. 1 yr
Parameter followed for biodegradation estimation:
other: concentration of the test substance in the supernatant
% Degr.:

Parameter:
other: loss of compound
Sampling time:
2.4 d
Transformation products:
yes
Remarks:
No: #1 Identifier: CAS number Identity: 108-42-9
No.:
#1

The loss of the compound in sediment was observed without any lag period. The reaction followed a first-order reaction mechanism with a rate constant 0.289 +/- 0.015 per day. Half live was 2.4 days. In autoclaved sediment (control experiment) the rate constant was 0.0012 per day. Up to half of the 1,2-dichloro-4-nitrobenzene was recovered as 3,4-dichloroaniline, which was degraded less rapidly than the TS

Degradation products: yes

Degradation products (CAS No./EC No./EINECS Name): 108-42-9 203-581-0 3-chloroaniline

Degradation products (CAS No./EC No./EINECS Name): 95-76-1 202-448-4 3,4-dichloroaniline

Conclusions:
1,2 -dichloro-4 -nitrobenzene degraded under anaerobic conditions in sediment yielding a half-life of 2.4 days. 3 -Chloroaniline and 3,4 -dichloroaniline were detected as degradation products (Susarla, 1996).
Executive summary:

1,2 -dichloro-4 -nitrobenzene degraded under anaerobic conditions in sediment yielding a half life of 2.4 days. 3 -Chloroaniline and 3,4 -dichloroaniline were detected as degradation products (Susarla, 1996).
