Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Information on adsorption / desorption is relevant to estimate where a substance will be found in the environment and how it may partition between environmental compartments.

Cerium metal can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption based on its very low solubility in water and therefore, its dependence on a particular metal-specific mechanism to be bounded.

For the estimation of the adsorption / desorption properties of cerium metal read-across to cerium-soluble compounds (Ce3+) was done, according to the read-across strategy explained for ecotoxicological properties. This corresponds to a worst-case scenario, because there is no relevant exposure of cerium metal in the environment according to the uses identified and, additionally, only a very small fraction may become soluble.
