Description of key information

The test item Benzotriazole can be considered as “not explosive under the conditions of EU method A.14”.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

The explosive properties of Benzotriazole were determined following EU A.14. No signs of an explosive reaction could be observed in any of the tests. While performing the test of mechanical sensitivity (friction), a rumbling noise could be observed, which was different to the noise of testing flour. After consultation of the national reference institute (BAM), this is no sign for explosive properties. Therefore, the test item Benzotriazole is considered as “not explosive under the conditions of EU method A.14”.

The guideline does not cover the explosive properties of dust consisting of test item (resp. mixtures of dust and air). Therefore, the result is stated as “under the conditions of EU method A.14”

Justification for classification or non-classification

No explosion was observed.

- in the test for thermal sensitivity,

- in the test for mechanical sensitivity (shock), using an impact energy of 40 J,

- in the test for mechanical sensitivity (friction),using a weight of 360 N and a speed of 10 mm in 0.44 seconds.
