Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Conclusions:
- The estimated log Koc of the test item was determined to be < 0.75 corresponding to a Koc of < 5.6. According to the McCall classification scheme of soil mobility potential a Koc of < 5.6 would mean a very high mobility for Pigment Yellow 191 in soil.
- Executive summary:
The adsorption coefficient (KOC) on soil and on sewage sludge using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was estimated according to OECD 121 and GLP.
The test was performed with a mobile phase acetonitrile : citrate-buffer / 55 : 45 (v/v) at pH 3 and pH 6. A 5 mg/L sample of the test item was analyzed threefold via HPLC on a cyanopropyl (CN-) column with PDA‑detection. Calibration was performed using 6 reference items with known values of log KOC, each with a nominal concentration of 5 mg/L. Analysis of the reference items were performed once before and after analysis of test item, respectively. Dead time of the HPLC-system was determined threefold using 2 mg/L sodium nitrate.
Under test conditions the retention time of the test item was found to be 2.300 minutes at pH 6 and 2.653 at pH 3.
At test conditions the retention times of the test item correspond with the void time of the chromatographic system. This means, that the log KOCof Pigment Yellow 191 was much lower than the log KOCof the reference substance with the lowest log KOC(2-nitrobenzamide: 0.75).
The estimated log KOCof the test item was therefore determined to be < 0.75 corresponding to a KOCof < 5.6. According to the McCall classification scheme of soil mobility potential a KOCof < 5.6 would mean a very high mobility for Pigment Yellow 191 in soil.
