Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The partition coefficient of DIPE ranged from log Kow = 1.52 (25 °C, pH not reported) to 2.4 (pH 6.7, temperature not reported) obtained from a TGD-approved handbook and a key study, respectively.

Additional information

The partition coefficient (log Kow) of DIPE was measured in a key study of Klimisch-2 reliability by Eadsforth (1983), using the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. The study, conducted in compliance with the OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals No. 117, reports a log Kow value of 2.4 for DIPE at pH 6.7. No information on temperature was reported. The authors also calculated the log Kow value to be 1.6 from the chemical structure using the fragment-addition method of Hansch and Leo (1979).

Also, a partition coefficient for DIPE of log Kow = 1.52 at 25 °C was sourced from the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (81st Ed.), known to contain peer-reviewed data of Klimisch-2 reliability. No information on the pH of the solution was reported. All three values agree that DIPE possesses a low log Kow (<3).
