Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII,  the determination of explosiveness (required in section 7.11) does not need to be conducted as there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in chlorine (refer to Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7a).

Chlorine is very active under specific conditions but it is not explosive or flammable.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the structure of the molecule and taking into account the provisions laid down in Council Directive 67/548/EEC and CLP, chlorine does not have to be classified with respect to explosiveness.
