Description of key information

For liquids the primary value for ease of ignition is the flash point. It is therefore not required to conduct a flammability study since isobutyl-(R)-lactate is a liquid and structural groups that imply potential reactivity with water or pyrophoric properties are lacking.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI this study is scientifically unjustified. The flammability of liquids is determined on the basis of their flash point (in combination with their boiling point), their ability to emit flammable gases upon contact with water and their pyrophoricity. A review of the molecular structure of isobutyl-(R)-lactate suggests that it does not contain groups that imply potential reactivity with water or pyrophoric properties. In addition, experience in handling and use does not indicate pyrophoric properties or flammability on contact with water.
