Receipt quantity : 200 mL
Appearance : Clear liquid
Purity : 97.4 %
Solubility : Water – insoluble,
DMSO, Acetone, Ethanol - soluble
pH : -
Storage condition : room temperature
Supplier : Miwon Commercial Co., Ltd - Analytical monitoring:
- yes
- Details on sampling:
- The daphnia were inspected (2 h), 24 h and 48 h after the test start, and then symptoms of intoxication and immobilisation were observed. Those animal that were not able to swim within 15 seconds, after gentle agitation of the test vessel were considered to be immobilised (even if they can still move their antennae). In addition to immobility, any abnormal behaviour or appearance were reported.
- Details on test solutions:
- The range-finding test was performed in 0.1, 1.0, 10.0 and 100.0 mg/L. Based on the result of the range-finding test 100 % immobility at the nominal concentration of 10.0
and 100.0 mg/L, and no immobility and adverse effects were observed at the nominal concentration of 0.1 and 1.0 mg/L. Therefore, the definitive test was performed in
0.95, 1.53, 2.44, 3.91, 6.25 and 10.00 mg/L (nominal concentration, geometric series 1.6).
As analysis result of test substance in test solution, the measured mean concentrations were 0.86, 1.30, 1.98, 3.18, 4.93 and 8.35 mg/L, respectively.
Negative control : M4 medium was used for negative control.
Solvent control : 5 mL Tween(R) 80:M4 medium(0.2:99.8, w/v) was put into 1000 mL of volumetric flask and test medium was filled up to the 1000 mL marker to prepare stock solutions (Test solution, 100 mg/L). The test solution was divided 100 mL each. - Test organisms (species):
- Daphnia magna
- Details on test organisms:
- The Daphnia magna are recommended species by OECD guidenlines for the Testing chemicals, 202 "Daphnia sp., Acute Immobilisation Test" (Adopted : 13 April, 2004). And it was selected for this test because of a plenty of comparing toxicological data.
The daphnia were bred in 1 L cylinder water bath. The temperature of breeding water was maintained between 19 oC - 21 oC and photo periods were 16 h of light and 8 h of dark. Feeds were supplied daily with Chlorella vulgaris (ATCC, 2005-04-28) in the morning.
The temperature of daphnia breeding room and breeding water were recorded automatically every 30 minutes. Photo periods were recorded every months. As the results of the monitoring, there was not observed an alteration effecting the test.
M4 medium was prepared as breeding water in the toxicity test according to OECD guidenlines for the Testing chemicals, 202 "Daphnia sp., Acute Immobilisation Test" (Adopted : 13 April, 2004). The water quality was analyzed water hardness by Inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy of Korea Standard I 3206 and alkalinity by titration method of Standard method (21th edition, APHA/AWWA/WEF, USA). As the results of the analysis, there was not observed the alteration effecting the test. - Test type:
- static
- Water media type:
- freshwater
- Limit test:

- Total exposure duration:
- 48 h
- Hardness:
- The total hardness of the test medium was 204.29 mg/L as CaCO3, and the alkalinity was 60.36 mg/L.
- Test temperature:
- The mean temperature was 20.2 oC (min. 19.9 oC - max. 20.8 oC)
- pH:
- The mean pH was 8.09 (min. 7.95 - max. 8.22)
- Dissolved oxygen:
- The mean Dissolved Oxygen (DO) was 8.06 mg/L (min. 7.63 mg/L - max. 8.36 mg/L)
- Nominal and measured concentrations:
- As the result of analysis at 0 h, concentrations of Ethoxylated-o-phenylphenol acrylate in test solutions were 0.87, 1.36, 2.08, 3.32, 5.18 and 8.46 mg/L (91.3, 89.2,85.1, 84.8, 82.9 and 84.6 % of nominal concentration), respectively.
Concentrations at 48 h were 0.85, 1.25, 1.90, 3.05, 4.69 and 8.25 mg/L (89.2, 81.3, 77.7, 78.0, 75.0 and 82.5 % of nominal concentration), respectively.
