- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture
- Endpoint:
- pyrophoric solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
- Endpoint:
- flammable solids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- Testing was conducted between 31 March 2010 and 24 August 2010.
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- yes

- Test procedure:
- burning rate test: preliminary screening test
- Burning time:
- 2 min
- Moisture (wt %):
- 1.635
- Remarks on result:
- substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- The test item has been determined to be not highly flammable as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.
- Executive summary:
Two physico-chemical properties of the test item have been determined.
Methods employed are designed to be compatible with those specified in Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008, Part A: Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties.
Method
The flammability (solids) was determined by measuring the burning rate of test item prepared as a pile of set dimensions. Testing was conducted using a method designed to be compatible with Method A10 Flammability (Solids) ofCommissionRegulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.
Conclusion
The test item has been determined to be not highly flammable as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.

Results
Preliminary screening test
The pile failed to ignite during the two minutes that the Bunsen flame was applied.
The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test.

Description of key information
Flammability [DTPMP (5-7Na)]: non-flammable
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- not classified
Additional information
The substance is only commercially available as aqueous solutions. The substance is involatile and undergoes gradual thermal decomposition. The requirement to test the substance for pyrophoricity and flammability in contact with water was waived in accordance with Section 1 of REACH Annex IX, because there is no indication on the basis of structure and experience in use and handling that the substance is pyrophoric (flammable in contact with air) or flammable in contact with water.
DTPMP-H has been determined not to be flammable as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test using method A.10 flammability of solids. This result is read-across to DTPMP (5-7Na). The salts are not expected to exhibit higher flammable properties than their corresponding parent acids.
DTPMP may give off toxic/flammable vapours of phosphine, phosphorus oxides, NOx and/or POx if heated above 200°C due to decomposition.
Justification for classification or non-classification
DTPMP (5-7Na) is not classified for flammability. DTPMP-H failed to ignite in preliminary screening study performed in accordance with EU Test Method A.10.
