Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Melam is rather stable in water at environmental temperatures. A half-time of hydrolysis at 25 °C of more than 1 year was obtained.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
1 yr
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

Less than 1 % of melam is hydrolysed in saturated buffered solutions at pH 4, 7 and 9 at 50.0 °C within 5 days. This low hydrolysis rate is considered in the EU guideline to correspond to a half-time of hydrolysis at 25 °C of more than 1 year.

A small increase of the oxytriazines as the degradation products was noticed, slightly higher for pH 9 than at pH 4 or 7.
