Description of key information

The flashpoint of Tar wood is stated as:
92.5 °C ± 0.5 °C (corresponding to 365.7 K ± 0.5 K) at 1013 hPa

Additional information

This study was performed in order to determine the flash point of Tar wood. The flash point

is a physico-chemical property which is needed for hazard assessment and safety purposes.

The substance was placed in a test vessel and heated to the test temperature in a Pensky-

Martens apparatus (based on non-equilibrium method). Ignition trials were carried out in

order to ascertain whether or not the sample flashed at the test temperature. The flash

point of a volatile liquid is the lowest temperature at atmospheric pressure (101325 Pa) at

which it can vaporize to form an ignitable mixture in air.

The flash point is given as the mean value of the duplicate determination. The measured

flash point is therefore 92.5 ± 0.5 °C (corresponding to 365.7 K ± 0.5 K) at 1013 hPa.

The difference between the two values which were measured was below 2 K. For this reason,

the determination was considered valid.
