Description of key information

Accumulation in organisms is not to be expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No experimental data are available for the assessment of the bioaccumulation potential of 1-methyl-1H-imidazole (CAS 616-47-7).

Based on the low log D values (pH 5 = -0.655; pH 7 = -0.029; pH 9 = 0.096; SPARC, BASF, 2021; see IUCLID Ch. 4.7) and the substance’s low n-octanol/water partition coefficient of -0.19 (25°C; BASF AG, 1989; 104547/01) for the uncharged molecule, accumulation in organisms is not to be expected.
Therefore, in accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX section 9.3.2 and for reasons of animal welfare, a study on bioaccumulation is not provided.
