Description of key information

Fatty acids, C8-10, zinc salts:

Toxicity studies of fatty acids, C8-10, zinc salts are not available. In the assessment of environmental toxicity of fatty acids, C8-10, zinc salts, read-across to the assessment entities zinc and C8 -10 fatty acids is applied since zinc cations and fatty acid anions determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Please refer to the respective assessment entity for further details.

C8-10 fatty acids

In a reliable chronic flow-through test with Danio rerio similar to OECD 215, the lowest 28 d NOEC of 2 mg/L was determined for the effect of sodium laurate (C12, dodecanoic acid) on the survival of zebrafish.

Zinc:

Freshwater: Data on 7 species available. Species NOECs range between 0.044 and 0.530 mg Zn/l (dissolved concentrations).

Marine: Data on 1 species available. NOEC = 0.025 mg Zn/l (dissolved concentrations)

Respective NOEC/EC10 values were applied in the species sensitivity distribution.
