Additional information

A GLP guideline study following OECD 209 testing the toxicity of sodium aluminate to activated sluge was conducted by Desmares-Koopmans (2010). The study was condcuted at pH 8.3 and microorganisms were exposed at a nominal concnetration of 100 mg/L. No inhibition of the respiratory rate was observed and the 3h. EC50 was determined to be > 100 mg/L and NOEC derived from test data was >= 100 mg/L.

In aqueous solutions of both Sodium aluminate and Ettringit, Al-ions are formed which are considered to determinate the ecotoxicological properties of both substances. Therefore, the results of the present test performed with Sodium aluminate will also reflect the toxicity of Ettringit to microorganisms.

The effect value obtained for sodium aluminate (100 mg/L) corresponds to 613 mg/L Ettringit (stoichiometric calculation).
