First-aid measures

General advice : Take off immediately all contaminated clothing including shoes

Inhalation : Move patient from contaminated area to fresh air. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed. Keep under medical surveillance. In case of problems : Hospitalise

Skin contact : Wash immediately, abundantly and thoroughly with soap and water. If significant contact: Keep under medical surveillance, Hospitalise

Eye contact : Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Consult an ophthalmologist immediately

Ingestion : Do NOT induce vomiting. In case of problems : Consult a doctor, Hospitalise

Protection of first-aiders : If entering a saturated atmosphere, wear a self contained breathing apparatus

Notes to physician : Do not administer catecholamines (because of the cardiac effect caused by the product)

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media : Carbon dioxide (CO2), Foam, Dry powder, Water spray

Specific hazards :

Highly flammable. Vapours may form explosive mixture with air.

Thermal decomposition giving toxic and corrosive products

Formation of : Hydrogen chloride gas

At high temperature: Phosgene

Specific methods : In case of fire nearby, remove exposed containers. Use water spray to cool unopened containers. Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains. Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. Prohibit all sources of sparks and ignition - Do not smoke.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters : In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Complete suit protecting against chemicals

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions : Use personal protective equipment. Ensure adequate ventilation. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Beware of vapours accumulating to form explosive concentrations. Vapours can accumulate in low areas. Prohibit all sources of sparks and ignition - Do not smoke. Prohibit contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of vapours.

Environmental precautions : Prevent product from entering drains. Should not be released into the environment. Dam up with sand or inert earth (do not use combustible materials)

Recovery : Pump into a labelled inert emergency tank. Absorb with inert absorbent material (Vermiculite, Clean sand).

After cleaning, flush away traces with water. Recover waste water for processing later.

Elimination : Destroy the product by incineration. (in accordance with local and national regulations)

Handling and storage

Handling

Technical measures/Precautions : Storage and handling precautions applicable to products:

Liquid, Toxic, Highly flammable With vapours explosive in air

Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at machinery. Provide showers, eye-baths.

Provide self-contained breathing apparatus nearby (for emergency intervention).

Provide water supplies near the point of use. Provide fire-blanket nearby. Provide electrical earthing of equipment.

Safe handling advice :

Strictly limit the quantities of product in the work area to those which are absolutely necessary for the work in hand. Avoid exposure - obtain

special instructions before use. Open drum carefully as content may be under pressure. Avoid splashing and emission of vapours when

handling. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Take precautionary measures against static discharges.Do

not use air for transfers. Do not use air to dry the equipment. Keep well away from naked flames. Use only explosion-proof equipment. In

case of entry into storage areas : Well ventilate empty vats and tanks before entering.

Hygiene measures:

Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Prohibit contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of vapours. When using do not eat, drink or

smoke. Wash hands after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Keep tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Do not smoke. Store protected from

moisture. Protect against light. Provide electrical earthing of equipment and electrical equipment usable in explosive atmospheres. Provide a

catch-tank in a bunded area. Provide impermeable floor.

Incompatible products :

Acids, Bases, Oxygen, Oxidizing agents , Finely divided metals

Packaging material:

Recommended: Iron, Ordinary steel

To be avoided: Light metals and alloys in the presence of humidity, including parts of the installation in contact with the product

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure Limit Values:

INRS (FR) 01 2008 VME=10 ppm

ACGIH (US), 2007: TWA = 10 ppm

General protective measures : Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms.

Advice on system design : Frequently monitor and control the working atmosphere. Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at machinery.

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection : Low concentrations or short activity: Full mask.  Respiratory protection complying with EN 14: AXB2

High concentrations or prolonged activity: Self contained Breathing Apparatus

Hand protection : Splash contact, intermittent and prolonged. PVC gloves. According to permeation index EN 374: 1 (time elapsed > 10 mins)

Eye protection : Safety glasses

Skin and body protection : At the workplace: Combination with delayed penetration, safety shoes

Intervention at incident: Complete chemical protection suit, complete suit, rubber or plastic boots

Stability and reactivity

Conditions to avoid : Protect from light. Store protected from moisture and heat.

Hazardous reactions : Stable under recommended storage conditions.

Materials to avoid : Acids, Bases, Oxygen, oxidizing agents (possible formation of :explosive compounds or those sensitive to impact)

Finely divided metals : Aluminium, Magnesium, Zinc, Titanium (risk of explosion)

Thermal decomposition : Decomposition temperature: 300 °C

Hazardous decomposition products : At high temperature: Thermal decomposition giving toxic and corrosive products.

Possible formation of : Hydrogen chloride gas, Phosgene

Disposal considerations

Disposal of product : In accordance with local and national regulations. Destroy absorbed product by incineration at an approved waste disposal site only

Disposal of packaging: Do not release into the environment.
