Description of key information

Long term effects on aquatic invertebrates are not expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to REACh legislation, Annex IX, 9.1, column 2, studies on the long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates do not need to be conducted, since available data on aquatic invertebrates show toxicities of chloromethane far in excess of natural occurring concentrations and the negligible amount of industrial release do notcontribute to the natural background concentrations.Additionally the substance will readily evaporate from the water body. Direct or indirect long-term exposure of the aquatic compartment is unlikely.
