Reference
Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
22 Mar 2010
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The substance is dissolved in water. Near the solubility solution with varying concentrations are prepared by the addion of dried substance to water and filling up to 100 ml. Each solution is stirred for at least 4 hours and then it is visually estimated. When the solution remains turbid the solubility should be exceeded. Additionally the solution was radiographed with polarised light because when forming liquid crystalline structures these should depolarise the light. For ethersulfates it is the second criterion for the solubility limit.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
flask method
Remarks:
visually
Water solubility:
280 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
6.8

The water solubility was estimated visually by observing the turbidity of solutions with various concentrations. That concentration of the solution was determined when it just remained clear. When the solution became turbid this concentration was already defined to contain unsoluble matter. Additionally at this concentration the solution depolarised light.

27 g of dried sample in 100 ml aqueous solution clear solution and polarised light remained polarised

28 g of dried sample in 100 ml aqueous solution clear solution and polarised light remained polarised

29 g of dried sample in 100 ml aqueous solution turbid solution and polarised light was depolarised

30 g of dried sample in 100 ml aqueous solution turbid solution and polarised light was depolarised

Description of key information

The water solubility is 280 g/L at 20 °C and pH 6.8.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
280 g/L
