Additional information

The toxicity to aquatic algae was assessed in an OECD 201 study using Raphidocelis subcapitata (prevoius name Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) as test organism (MITI, 2000; report no. 9B440G). The test concentrations were analytically verified and stable during the exposure; therefore, the results are expressed as nominal concentrations. The pH of the test solutions was within acceptable guideline specifications and did not need to be adjusted.

Results were re-calculated with ToxRat Pro v3.3.0 to obtain EC10 values and verify validity criteria (BASF SE, 2021).

Regarding growth rate, the following effect values were determined: 72-h EC10 = 78.3 mg/L, 72-h EC50 = 141.1 mg/L (based on nominal concentrations, verified by analytical measurement).

Based on the available data phthalonitrile is not considered to be acutely harmful to aquatic algae. Additionally, following CLP chronic toxicity is not anticipated.
