Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Burning time:
> 10 min
Remarks on result:
other: no progression of burning/combustion without ignition source

The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test substance pile, which melted, burned with yellow flame and turned into a black residue. White smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished immediately, and no propagation of combustion was observed along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 min.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria

Description of key information

Flammability of pitch, coal tar, high-temp. was determined in a study according to EU method A.10. The result is adopted as flammability of Pitch, coal tar, high-temp., < 1% 4- to 5-membered condensed ring aromatic hydrocarbons [EC no. 701-305-8] (CTPhtht).

Key value for chemical safety assessment
